Torque reveals Neural Network Subtitle Extraction on its DVStor at NAB 2024
New feature simplifies clip export with languages as text or SRT files
Las Vegas, NV, April 14, 2024 – Torque Video Systems, the global provider of innovative solutions for digital television networks and streaming media services, announced the latest enhancement to its DVStor Compliance Recording solution, with neural network subtitle extraction.
A new option for DVStor, the neural network subtitle extraction allows clip export with the flexibility to extract one or more languages as text, SRT or WebVTT files. Since the subtitles are transmitted as images rather than text, DVStor utilizes a new neural network to perform OCR (optical character recognition) on the subtitle images to render subtitles as text. Languages with latin alphabets are straightforward, however, latin alphabet languages with many accent marks such as Hungarian or Vietnamese are tricky. For the Chinese language, the model is trained on a truly massive data set with 99.8% results.

Another new feature for DVStor is the support for Secure Reliable Transport, which provides low-jitter, error-free content transmission over poor-quality or public internet links.
Offering low cost, small carbon footprint solution, the DVStor offers robust recording and playout engine for MPEG Transport Streams. It records the entire TS without encoding or modifying it. Stored content is fully fit for rebroadcast or repurpose. DVStor comes with MPEG-DASH support, TimeCode Player, Secure Reliable Transport support as well as subtitle capture, conversion and more.
The versatility of the DVStor makes it the ideal solution for disaster recovery playout, digital time shift, as well as remote clip extraction. Highly scalable, DVStor supports thousands of channels spanning months of recording.
